Alaina Hawthorn
Designer I
Alaina is an emerging design professional with a background in architecture and urban design, bringing a fresh interdisciplinary perspective to public space projects.
With a Master's Degree in Urban Design for Healthy Cities from Universitat Internacional de Catalunya and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture with a Minor in City and Regional Planning from The Ohio State University, she is passionate about shaping environments that promote healthy and resilient communities.
During their graduate studies in Barcelona, Alaina was immersed in a city where transit-oriented development, walkability, and vibrant public spaces are seamlessly integrated into daily life. This international experience deeply influenced her approach to urban design, sharpening her focus on how spatial and cultural contexts shape community well-being.
Through her coursework and studio projects, she gained hands-on experience in community engagement, often conducting participatory design sessions and gathering public feedback in a second language—an experience that refined her ability to listen actively and foster collaborative solutions. She also brings valuable experience from her time as an intern with the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, where she contributed to public projects within the state.
She brings strong skills in diagramming, and synthesizing complex ideas through clear visual communication, along with a passion for community involvement in the design process. She is excited to collaborate on projects that bridge architecture, landscape, and urban systems to create meaningful, community-centered spaces.
