Campus connectivity: REALM collaborated in the design team’s transformation of an outdated plaza and pedestrian bridge replacement at the University of Toledo. The campus plan for this area is to better connect students and visitors from the gateway to campus, to parking facilities, then to John F. Savage Arena and the athletic complex.

What we did: REALM championed the emphasis on public community open space, manifesting itself into a more pedestrian friendly experience including an overlook plaza that connected users to the adjacent river. The plaza space provides for areas of passive seating, an accessible ramp to access the pedestrian bridge, and a multimodal drop-off for vehicles and campus shuttles. Connections to a campus riverfront trail network provides for kayak launch access to the Ottawa River increasing recreational activity on campus for students.
